Crayfish at North Lake
4th June 2020 Posted in Community News
We are aware of the crayfish at North Lake and are waiting for a licensed trapper and guidance from the Environment Agency. Please DO NOT take the crayfish out of North Lake. There are a lot of rules around catching them some of which are detailed below:
- Native crayfish are a protected species. They are now only found in a few parts of England and Wales. You can’t trap them to eat or sell.
- You can trap non-native crayfish but only if you have consent from the Environment Agency and use the trap identity tags provided by them.
- You also need permission from the landowner.
