Dynamic Sculpture Stolen

15th January 2019 Posted in Community News

Part of the Swing, Skate and Star sculpture at The Elms Park, between Park Road and Warfield Road, Bracknell has been stolen.

The sculpture was commissioned by Bracknell Town Council and designed by Lydia Karpinska marking the beginning of Bracknell Town Council in 1955 to the present day. Three figures were produced – a swinging girl, a skateboarding boy, and a dog. The sculpture has been in place at the centre of The Elms Park since 2009 however sadly the ‘Swinging Girl’ has been removed by force.

“The theft of this artwork is very sad. It was installed in 2009 to mark the 60th anniversary of the designation of Bracknell, and it is a blow for it to be taken in this 70th anniversary year.  It is very distinctive, and I hope that anyone seeing it will report it to the police or the Council. It is an amalgam of materials, so will be of limited financial value.” said Leader of Bracknell Town Council, Cllr Chris Turrell.
