A list of potential names for new streets has been approved by Bracknell Town Council at its Full Council meeting on 26 February. The list includes the late Professor Stephen Hawking and scientists associated with his work and also important female scientists. Engineers, mapmakers and 19th and 20th century architects linked with Bracknell were also on the list.
Cllr Chris Turrell, leader of Bracknell Town Council, said: “There was a notable public reaction to the death of Stephen Hawking last year, and we wanted to recognise the impact he had in his field. There are already streets in Bracknell named after scientists, so it seems appropriate to add to these additional names. Engineers, mapmakers and architects have all had their influence on Bracknell, and we wanted to recognise this.”
The name bank is updated periodically and all submissions go through a number of checksĀ before being listed to ensure there are no duplications.
