Volunteering Opportunity at Citizens Advice Bracknell & District

Do you have a few hours a week spare? Would you like to help our clients deal with issues such as benefits, debt, housing and employment? Then why not contact us. We’re looking for new volunteers to join our team at Bracknell.
What will you do?
You’ll talk to clients over the phone, using email, or webchat, to explore what problems they’ve come for help with. You’ll find information about the clients’ problems and help them to understand their options.

You could make a real difference to our clients’ lives and learn about issues such as benefits, debt, employment and housing. You’ll build on valuable skills such as communication, listening and analysing. And you’ll help people from a range of backgrounds and communities.
What do you need to have?
You don’t need specific qualifications or skills, but you’ll need to:
• be friendly and approachable
• be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
• have good listening skills
• have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• have good IT skills
• be able to understand information and explain it to others
• be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
• be willing to undertake training in your role
How much time do you need to give?
We’re looking for a minimum of 8 hours per week, but there’s no upper limit – it’s dependent on your availability and situation. Volunteers can be based in the office, or volunteer remotely from home, so you don’t need to live within the local area, and there’s flexibility on the number of hours you volunteer. You’ll need to be available for at least 12 months.
Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and we particularly welcome applications from disabled people, people with physical or mental health conditions, LGBT+ and non-binary people, and people from Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
