Bracknell Town Council has officially approved its budget for the financial year 2024-25 during its Full Council meeting on Tuesday 13th February. The Chair of the Strategy and Finance Committee, Councillor Guy Gillbe, presented the budget, marking a significant milestone as the first budget under a Labour town council in over 20 years.
In his presentation, Councillor Gillbe highlighted the council’s commitment to maintaining the Town Council’s high standards despite financial pressures. The approved budget focuses on preserving essential services such as play facilities, hall hire and support for community groups. It also signifies the council’s dedication to its promises made to the community, accelerating the Carbon Reduction Plan with initiatives like solar panel installations, energy-efficient boiler replacements, and the transition to electric vehicles.
Despite a 2% increase in the precept, which means an extra £1.95 per year for a Band D property, Councillor Gillbe expressed regret about the rise. He explained it is necessary because of inflation, but assured that the increase is less than the inflation rate.
Councillor Gillbe concluded by thanking the officers and councillors for their dedicated efforts in preparing the budget proposal.
The approved budget will soon be uploaded to the Documents section of the website.
